We started in September 1983 when Dr. Richard Marshall attended a weeklong missions conference led by Don Fredricks, Director UIM. He presented all of his tribes in the Southwest U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
On the last conference day, Director Fredricks presented his most difficult and challenging Tribe, the Havasupais.
They are very remote, so much so that they mainly receive their supplies, including the US Mail, by horse and mule packtrain. The Tribe was spiritually dark, and sin prevailed. Dr. Marshall volunteered to help with Christian veterinarians. Two veterinarians and four assistants went to Supai the day after Thanksgiving, and VCF was born.
The annual November clinics became the norm until variations were made because of Covid. In the meantime, a few other tribes were included: the Black Mesa Navajos of Arizona and Chemehuevis, along the Colorado River in California.
After 30 years, Dr. Richard retired at the end of 2012, and Dr. Greg Smith became the new Director of VCF. For over 40 years, VCF has conducted these free preventative medicinal and animal control clinics in order to evangelize the Native American Indians and to encourage the local church.
